The strength of international treaties as a legal instrument is also examined and the repercussions that states may face if they renege on these treaties. Towards the end of the podcast, we explore the systemic issues that have given rise to the refugee crisis and other global crises and the need for proactive legislation that can prevent such crises, rather than responsive political policies which can only manage the damage already done.
