ENCOUNTERS FIFTH ISSUENyein Chan certainly did not envision the path of service he has traversed over the course of his life when he was a young student in college, but upon reflection is incredibly grateful and satisfied with where he stands today. As a leader at Catholic Charities since he became a Case Manager in 2000, he is part of the group that facilitates the integration of refugees into the local northern Indiana community. Nyein takes great pride in serving those who are following the same journey he did in coming to the United States. A man with a great sense of humor, he discusses his path and service in a way that invites all to join him as a source of joy and happiness in their own lives. After all, oftentimes those who serve get more out of the transaction than those served. Regarding the current program in place which he oversees, community support is crucial in welcoming these immigrants and providing the platform and opportunity through which they can integrate and contribute to society. Whether it be a factory in South Bend or restaurant in Fort Wayne, employers who invest in these refugees and allow them to be a functioning part of their organization will see a positive return on investment. Similarly, community engagement programs in schools or places of worship will also be fulfilled by all of the great things those coming here have to offer, they simply need a chance to show it. Nyein’s team devotes themselves to this cause and has seen tremendous results over many years, and will continue to do so far out into the future. Theme Town |
