Father Rey is a Mexican missionary, working in support of Caritas of Vicenza.
We asked him to help us get in, understand and tell the dynamics taking place in the three receptions of the Humanitarian Corridors project in act there, a less than a year after the arrival of the refugees.
Rey faced migration for the first time in Australia, sent by his congregation. He will then be in Thailand, Costa Rica, Mexico again, before being sent to Italy to study the issue in the European context. These experiences and being a migrant in turn allow him a unique perspective: he can watch with the eyes of migrants as well as with those of the operators, while with his own he observes everything, including us and our society.
In this first part of the story we investigate his relationship with the beneficiaries, in particular with the four young guys living in Quinto Vicentino
We know, from previous video calls with the four boys, that their desire - the dream, as Rey says - was to be able to continue their studies, here in Italy. The project, and reality, dictate that the priority is to obtain a certain level of economic independence, so the guys are attending a training course for welders. We was interested in how they are living this moment, and we talked about it with Rey and the protagonists.
